Creating beautiful gardens in the UK and Italy

Scapino Design is Nick Giles, providing a range of garden design and consultancy services, including bespoke planting, garden and landscape styling as well as ongoing support and advice.  Nick has designed gardens in the UK but having relocated to Piedmont, Italy in 2017, has worked on developing gardens in the region. This includes responding to the specific opportunities and challenges of the local soil and climate, and creating gardens that develop and thrive as they age.

  • DEFINING LEVELS AND CREATING INTEREST IN CALAMANDRANA

    A tight space surrounding a beautiful old villa needed a sympathetic and natural design which could incorporate the varying levels and sloping land of the plot.

  • CREATING 'ROOMS' WITH NATURAL PLANTING IN ROCCHETTA PALAFEA

    As is typical of many old ‘cascinas’ in the region, this house was surrounded solely with flat grass areas which struggled each summer with the intense Piedmont heat. The vast expanse of grass was broken up into ‘rooms’ and a drought-resistant planting scheme was put in place.

  • CREATING DEFINITION AND COLOUR IN SANTO STEFANO BELBO

    Transforming a concrete ‘car park’ was never going to be easy, but a design was needed to break up this flat area and to create interest and colour to complement the new pool and summer house.
